Darmstadt-Dieburg County Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. Above in a golden (= yellow) field is a red demi-lion issuant holding a 6-spokes wheel of the same colour between his paws. Below in blue field are 23 white 4-point stars ordered in rows 7:6.5:4:1.
Meaning:
The lion is that one of the counts of Katzenelnbogen, who ruled most of the district, and had one of their main estates and castles in the city of Darmstadt. The wheel is that one of the Electorate of Mainz, as part of the district was part of this State. The stars are symbolizing the 23 municipalities in the district.
