The symbols of Brinje are mentioned (but not described) in Article 4 of the current Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Brinje, adopted on 21 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 3 August 2009 in the County official gazette Županijski glasnik Ličko-senjske županije, No. 13.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, light blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

Coat of arms of Brinje - Image by Željko Heimer, 8 October 2005
The coat of arms is "Azure an hawk displayed proper holding a tower argent roofed gules".
The tower is a representation of the 14th century three-storey Gothic St. Mary chapel, part of the Sokolac Castle around which Brinje was formed. The arms are canting, sokol meaning "hawk" in Croatian.
