Belišće was granted the Town status in 1997.

The symbols of Belišće are are described in the Town Statutes Statut Grada Belišća, adopted on 12 November 2001 by the Town Assembly and published in the Town official gazette Službeni glasnik Grada Belišća, No. 8.
The current Town Statutes Statut Grada Belišća (text), adopted on 15 July 2009 by the Town Assembly and published in Službeni glasnik Grada Belišća, No. 5, also include the description of the symbols.
Decision Odluka o izdavanju odobrenja za uporabu grba Grada Belišća, adopted on 1 September 2010 by the Town Assembly and published on 30 September 2010 in Službeni glasnik Grada Belišća, No. 6, granting the use of the coat of arms to a local community, does not mention any previous Decision on the use of the symbols, referring only to the 2009 Statutes. This would mean that no such Decision of lower rank than the Statutes was ever issued. That would also mean that the origial symbols were adopted with the adoption of the Statutes. I suspect it must have been some of the Statutes prior to 2001.
The flag is prescribed in proportions 1:2, yellow with the coat of arms of the Town in the middle.

The coat of arms is described in the 2001 Statutes as "red shield with two white leaves and in base three white stripes (rivers)". The 2009 Statutes name the rivers that cross the Town's territory as Drava, Karašica and Vučica.
