The municipality of Jasenovac is located at the confluence of river Una into the Sava, about 50 km south-east of Sisak. It has been heavily destructed during the Serbian occupation in the 1990s, but it is probably most well-known as the site of the largest Ustaša-run concentration camp during the Second World War.

The symbols of Jasenovac are prescribed by Decision Odluka o opisu i uporabi grba i zastave Općine Jasenovac, published in 1995 in the Municipality official gazette Slućbeni vjesnik Općine Jasenovac, No. 8.
The Decision is mentioned in the Muicipality Status Status Općine Jasenovac, adopted on 3 October 2001 by the Municipality Assembly and published in Slućbeni vjesnik Općine Jasenovac, No. 20.

The flag is blue with the coat of arms in canton.

The coat of arms of Jasenovac is "Gules, an ash branch argent in bend sinister with a leaf and three acorns". It is canting the name of the municipality since jasen means "ash-tree".

The ocat of arms was designed by Draženka Jalšić, also the designer of the coat of arms of Novigrad Podravski, Kloštar Podravski and Koprivnica (Glas podravine, 25 December 1998).
