The municipality of Lipovljani is located 65 km east of Sisak. Its population is 4,100, almost 2,800 in the town of the same name. The municipality has rather large minorities of Ukrainians (4,32%), Slovaks (3,00%) and Czechs (2,44%) and also a relatively large percentage of Greek Catholics (3,85%). In history it was known for the medieval fortified citadel in the vicinity - Kraljeva Velika, which is nowadays mostly ruined. In the last half of the 20th century, the place was probably most well-known as the ending station of the modern highway that was being built from Zagreb to Belgrade - the point where the highway "stopped" for some decades.

The coat of arms of Lipovljani is: "Or a linden leaf issuant from a wall masoned and embattled gules in base". The linden leaf is canting the name of the municipality (lipa, linden tree).
