The flag and arms of Bovec are prescribed in the municipal statutes Statut Občine Bovec (text), adopted by the Municipal Council on 29 June 2006, and published on 11 July 2006 in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 72/2006.

According to Gogala [gog02], the flag of Bovec is hoisted vertically, in proportion 1:2, diagonally divided blue ("the Soča blue") and white with the municipal coat of arms in the white field.

Stanič & Jakopič [j2s05] write that the symbols were adopted on 17 September 1997 and give the following colour specifications:
- Background blue: Pantone 305
- Green: Pantone 347
- River blue: Pantone 326
The chamois is described as being "gold", without Pantone reference.

The emblem used as the coat of arms by the municipality of Bovec shows a chamois in jump over a mountain partially covered with snow with a river flowing from it.
According to Gogala, it symbolizes the Bovec canyon (Bovška kotlina), the valleys of Trenta and Koritnica rivers and the high mountains of the municipality. The S shaped river representsts the river Soča (in Italian, Isonzo).
