Partido Liberal Democrático (PLD)

In fifth place in the present Angolan Parliament is the PLD, that is, the Partido Liberal Democrático (Liberal Democratic Party). This party has 3 MPs and a website. It also has a flag that is a Blue over Orange diagonal with a thin White stripe running from upper hoist to lower fly. The blue area is charged with 18 white stars disposed in somewhat ragged rows of (from top to bottom) 7, 5, 3, 2 and 1 stars (curiously these are all prime numbers - I wander if this is on purpose?). The orange area is charged with the party symbol. Despite the existence of a relatively good image of this symbol in the party website, it is so complex that not all details are clearly identifiable and/or accurately drawable. In any case, it contains a white disc, two branches, probably laurel, a bird, eventually an eagle, with open wings and holding a 5-pointed star that rests over a complex scroll that has something written, eventually the party initials (PLD). All this lies over the silhouettes of a man, a boy, a girl and a woman, which in turn stand over something black I assumed that was possibly the full name of the party. Everything is yellow outlined black, except the disc and the wording.

The Partido Liberal Democrático or PLD (Liberal Democratic Party is a medium sized Angolan political party which got the second best result in the 2008 Angolan parliamentary elections among those parties which did not get any MPs elected.  It had three seats in the previous legislature.  The Chr. Michelsen Institute in Norway says that:
The Partido Liberal Democrático (Democratic Liberal Party) is the fifth biggest party in the outgoing parliament.  It was established by exile Angolans in Lisbon. The party president is Anália Pereira Simeão, the most visible female politician in Angola. The PLD is a member of the Liberal International and liberalism is a strong principle in the PLD.  The PLD is not a radical opposition party, but a liberal reformist party. Unlike many other parties, the PLD does not rely on an ethnic or regional support base. It is an open, modern and well-organised party.

On the National Electoral Committee official website its flag is similar to that shown above but for two differences: The shade of orange is lighter and it shows the stars in columns, i.e., the same 7+5+3+2+1
but equally interspaced and aligned to the right.
