About the Flag of Taguatinga

The flag of the Regional Administration of Taguatinga (RA III), which is part of the Federal District, including information in Portugese, is at: http://www.gdf.gov.br/raiii/bandeira.html.
Dov Gutterman, 20 January 1999

The flag of Taguatinga was chosen on 1 November 1994 from among 156 entries in in a design competition. The winning design, by Lisarb Sena de Melo, was inspired by a poem about Taguatinga by Antônio Garcia Muralha. The blue and white colors represent the sky and peace. The star is the symbol of the city and represents the planet Venus, while the bird, which is mentioned in the poem, is a raptor that is very common in the central Planalto (the region in which the Distrito Federal is located).
