The municipality of Novo Itacolomi (2,827 inhabitants in 2010; 162 sq. km) is located in north central Paraná, 400 km of Curitiba. Novo Itacolomi was settled in 1947 by colonists coming from Minas Gerais, expecting to grow coffee on the "red soil". The "Companhia Melhoramentos Norte do Paraná" (CMNP), following the establishment of the town of Cambira, decided to establish a new settlement near Apucarana and Jandaia do Sul. The CMNP selected the name of Nova Itacolomi among several variants - Itacolomy, Taquaras, São Sebastião de Itacolomi and Itacolomi. The municipality of Novo Itacolomi was established by State Decree-Law No. 9,387 of 28 September 1990, confirmed on 27 October 1991 by a plebiscite (1103 out of the 1,281 registered people votes "yes"), and inaugurated on 1 January 1993.

The flag of Novo Itacolomi was designed by Manoel Gonçalves da Silva. The three horizontal stripes represent the three ethnical components of the population. The blue stripe represents the sky, with the stars representing the three pillars of the Federation: Municipality, Union, State. Yellow represents our resources. The white stripe represents peace. The green stripes represents agriculture.

The coat of arms of Novo Itacolomi was designed by Joel Marcos Macedo. The rope is an object whose fruit comes from a free seed [?]. The anchor is a symbol of hope, protection, support and shelter. Maize (dexter) and cotton (sinister) are the main crops in the municipality. In the middle, a flaming stone represents the Fire's Stone, as captioned on the scroll [?]. The five stars mean Peace, Love, Union, Order and Progress. The yellow circle recalls maize production. The white background symbolizes peace.

The "Symbols" page of the municipal website shows a photo of the flag, as represented on the FOTW  website, which is, according to recent sightings, obsolete. The website of the Municipal Council shows portraits of the councillors in front of the flag, never completely seen. Different photos help to reconstruct the flag, which appears to have yellow stars pointing upwards and placed on the descending diagonal of the stripe, green lettering and the coat of arms in the green stripe.

The flag used in the 2011 Riding Parade has blue writing and lacks the coat of arms in the lower stripe. The stars are, unfortunately not visible on the photos.

Yet another, undated photo of the Riding Parade shows what appears to be the same flag, with yellow stars.

To conclude, if possible, we have, at least, three variants of the flag of Novo Itacolomi, the three of them backed up by photos.
- white stars, tilted, placed horizontally, blue lettering, coat of arms (shown above);
- yellow stars pointing upwards, placed ?, blue lettering, no coat of arms;
- yellow stars pointing upwards, placed diagonally, green lettering, coat of arms (see below)
From the second photo of the Parade, one could even conclude that the lettering is green on the reverse  and blue on the obverse, providing there are no light effects (of which I doubt, but...)
