Jan Antonín Baťa (1898-1965), the Czech "King of Shoes", who had settled in Brazil short before the Second World War, established in 1941 an estate and a bridge over river Peixe, linking Mariápolis and Presidente Prudente. Josef Kielkowski and João Fonsek set up plots on CIMA's behalf. Antonio Jacomeli purchased the first plot of the new town in 1943. The district of Mariápolis was established in 1948, as part of the municipality of Adamantina. The municipality of Mariápolis was established on 30 December 1953 and inaugurated on 3 January 1965, The name of the municipality is a tribute to the founder's wife, Maria J. Bata.
