Description of coat of arms:
Shield Gules, two peat-spades Or in saltire, chief Gules charged with three bricks Gules ordered 2:1.
Meaning:
The spades are referring to peat digging in the local marshes in the past. The bricks are referring to the local brickyards. The colours red and yellow are those of the Bishopric of Münster, to which the area historically belonged. The flag colours are those of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg.
