Introduction

By the Treaty of Hamburg (1701), most of the Mecklenburg territory went to Mecklenburg-Schwerin. (...) The Congress of Viena in 1814-15 recognised it as grand duchy (...). The Nationalsocialist government in 1934 merged it with Mecklenburg-Strelitz into one Land.

Grand Duke's house flag: Stander der Grossherzoglichen residenzgebaude wenn dort geflaggt wird, ohne dass Mitglieder des Grossherzoglichen Hauses dort Wohnung genommen haben, hausgenommen Heiligendamm eingefuhrt. [Pennant of the grand ducal residence buildings when they are decorated with flags, when no members of the grand ducal family are living there, first hoisted when the Heiligendamm was put in use.]
