Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
A black, rampant lion, armed and crowned silver (=white) and tongued red is placed upon a lozengy shield of gold (=yellow) and blue.
Meaning:
According to source the lozengy shield is that one of the kin of von Baack, who was owner Grevinghoff mansion and the right of wood processing in the Beelen marshes. The lion is taken from the arms of the lords of Oesede, who died out in the 14th century. The lion's colours were unknown. Therefore they had been chosen arbitrarily in 1939.
Beelen is the smallest municipality within the county and resisted successfully being incorporated into the neighbouring villages.
