Symbols of Viator

The flag of Viator, adopted on 2 December 2013 by the Municipal Council and submitted on 12 December 2013 to the Directorate General of the Local Administration, is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 10 December 2014 by the Directorate General of the Local Administration and published on 21 January 2014 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 13, p. 166 (text).
The flag is described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag, with a proportion of 25 units in length on 15 units in height, made of two green and blue quarters (green at left and blue at right) separated by a silver diagonal stripe. Charged in the center with the official crowned coat of arms of the municipality of Viator, in a proportion of 20% of the flag's total length.

The memoir supporting the proposed flag was redacted by Alfonso Ruíz García, an historian from Almería.
Green (Pantone 369 PC; CMYK 19-0-100-7) represents the connection of the town with agriculture, especially with the production of olives, table grapes, and, more recently, oranges.
Blue (Pantone 3005 PC; CMYK 100-36-0-2) highlights the dependence of the town of river Andarax and its plain, as the source of life.
The silver (Pantone 421 PC; CMYK 0-0-0-26) stripe recalls that Viator administratively and politically depended of Almería until 1836; argent is the colour of the field of the coat of arms of Almería (Argent a St. George's Cross).

The flag was inaugurated on 30 March 2014. Scheduled to 29 March, the ceremony had to be postponed because of bad weather [Ideal, 31 March 2014].

The coat of arms of Viator, adopted on 29 January 2008 by the Municipal Council and submitted on 27 February 2008 to the Directorate General of the Local Administration, is prescribed by a Decree adopted on 27 February 2008 by the Directorate General of the Local Administration and published on 14 March 2008 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 52, p. 34 (text).
The coat of arms is described as follows:

Coat of arms: Shield in Spanish shape. Per fess, 1a. Or a tower argent on a base vert, 1b. Argent a tree eradicated vert, 2. Azure a bridge argent on a base proper. The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown closed.

The bridge represents the camino (way) at the origin of the place's name, recalling the Roman road (via) linking Castulo and Malaca. The tree recalls that fruit and olives are the main sources of income for the municipality.
