Symbols of Joarilla de las Matas

The flag and arms of Joarilla de las Matas are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 6 May 2003 by the Municipal Council, signed on 7 May 2003 by the Mayor, and published on 20 May 2003 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 94, p. 7,391 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag with proportions 2:3, made of a green panel with a white saltire throughout cantonned by four yellow wheat spikes.
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Gules two shepherd's sticks argent per saltire, 2. Vert five wheat spikes or 2 + 1 + 2. The shield surmounted with a Royal crown closed.

The coat of arms recalls that Joarilla de las Matas is a farmers and shepherds' village, therefore the wheat spikes and the shepherd's sticks (cachas). The famous Shepherds' Festival "Los Pastores" includes the Cachas' Dance.
