The selection of the municipal flag of Aller has been reported by S. Gutierrez in "La Voz de Asturias." The winning design, selected among 62, proposals, was one of the five presented by Fernando González.

The colours of the new flag are red, green and white, which were already used in the municipal coat of arms. The flag is divided into two parts, the upper red and the lower green, by a thick broken line showing two asymmetrical peaks. The line represents "the mountains of the concejo," according to the designer, who also incorporated in the flag other elements of the coat of arms, the sun and the castle.

The jury was made of representatives of the different groups at the municipal council, the Deputy Mayor in charge of culture, two historians, a chronicler and the President and the Secretary of the Spanish Vexillological Society. The proposers are from different places in the Asturias but also in the Canaries, La Rioja, Basque Country, Castile and Leon and Madrid.

"Editorial Prensa Asturiana" reports also the flag of Aller, with some additional details. The designer of the flag is a member of the Spanish Vexillological Society. The sun is the blazon of "los Solises" whereas the castles represent the old fortifications of the city. The official inauguration of the new municipal flag is expected for next September.

The contest's winner, Luis Fernando Gonzalez Garcia, is a member of the Vexillological Society of Spain (SEV). The proposals and the authors were presented in different closed envelops, making it an anonimous contest, until a proposal was chosen. Only then, the author's envelope was opened and the name given by the secretary of the jury. Representing SEV were Eduardo Panizo and myself, having a say on the jury as consultants, but not being able to vote. The clors of the winning design are:

    red Pantone 485
 yellow Pantone 116
  green Pantone 354

The municipal flag of Aller was officially hoisted on the balcony of the town hall by Mayor Gabriel Pérez Villalta on 13 December 2006. The ceremony was boycotted by the municipal councillors of the opposition party PP, who complained that only two out of the four elements of the coat of arms, representing the four components of the municipality, were represented on the flag. They would have accepted a flag with either the four elements or none.
