The municipality of Villar de Peralonso (306 inhabitants in 2009; 3,166 ha) is located in the north of the Salamanca Province, 50 km from Salamanca.
The name "Villar", used by several other villages in the province, recalls an old Roman estate (villa). Villar de Peralonso is famous for the "María Teresa" uranium mine, exploited since the late 1950s.
