Introduction

I recently saw a 1936 movie called "Things To Come" — kind of a sweeping chronicle of future events, coupled with preachy dialogue and turgid acting. In its second act, set in the far-off year 1970, a petty warlord called Rudolph the Victorious takes over a swath of England after a civilization-wrecking world war.

Rudolph's banner is carried by his cavalry troops during his grand entrance. The movie is in Black & White so obviously the colors are unguessable.

The cross-symbol is oddly reminiscent of the inter-world war period Yugoslavia airforce roundel.

The original script by Wells, at Leonscripts includes the following description:

A big rosette flag hangs over the portico of the Town Hall. This rosette is the symbol of the ruling Boss and his government.

The state he rules is likely kept nameless on pupose, as the filmmakers were going for a certain parable-like universality — for example, the city which the movie follows all the way to 2030 is named, unsubtly, "Everytown."
