Presentation of Kula Norinska

The Municipality of Kula Norinska is located in the middle part of the valley of river Neretva, that is somewhat mid distance between the port of Ploče at the river delta and the town of Metković, now on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, once the only port on the river.
The tower (in Croatian, kula) was built there around 1500 by the Ottomans, but the strategic importance of the tower overlooking the river made it change of rulers quite often. The cross with a memorial plaque was set in it in 1934, celebrating the 250 anniversary of its final liberation from the Ottomans.
The villages forming the municipality, including the village of Kula Norinska proper, are, however, located on the opposite bank of the river. The municipality counts 1,926 inhabitants according to the 2001 census, living in nine villages, the largest being Krvavac (613 inh.) and the second largest being the municipality seat and namesake (302 inh.).

The symbols of Kula Norinska are shown on the municipality Facebook profile.
In 2010 the municipality ran a public contest for the symbols. The text is available on the municipal website, but nothing was published on the results and subsequent events.

The flag (image) is in proportions 1:2, blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms (image) is "Gules three bars argent a tower of Norin of the last with a cross in its dexter issuant from a pile reversed arched in base a chevron arched also argent and six bezants, 3-2-1".
The silver bars represents the numerous small arms and irrigation channels made by the Neretva river. The tower is representing quite faithfully the actual tower. The pile reversed with the silver line represent the bow of a typical Neretva ship. The disks represent the traditional wine production, but are also said to represent th more recent production of mandarines, and agriculture in general.
The same tower in a more heraldic conventional shape is displayed on the historical and modern arms of Opuzen; when that coat of arms was designed, Kula Norinska was still part of the Municipality of Opuzen.
