Emblem of the SRCE, two versions - Images by Željko Heimer, 8 September 2014

The Centre was established in 1971 as the central institution for applied information technologies in the academic system and in general in Croatia. It was the core of the Croatian internet, although recently the net branched out as separate entity, CARNet (Croatian Academic and Research Netowork), with wide Internet management responsibilities in Croatia, while the SRCE remained "only" the University centre.

Article 10 of the Centre Statutes Statut Sveučilišnog računskog centra Sveučilišta u Zagrebu, last amended on 24 September 2013, states that the governing board adopted the emblem, which may be used, among others, on the flag.
The emblem of SRCE in current use consists of a heart-shaped black outline with encircling "tail" reminiscent to the @ symbol, and lowercase initials of the centre. The inner part of the heart shape is hand-hatched with red. Its use on a flag was not recorded so far.
Prior to introduction of these symbols (around 2002, based on annual reports available on the Center website), the SRCE used a series of previous symbols. In the 1990s, the emblem consisted of initials "srce" composed of dark gray outlined gray squares ("pixels").
