This is one of the villages in the Golan Heights, an area of Syria occupied by Israel since 1967 and unilaterally annexed in 1981. Under Israeli law and de facto, the Golan Heights are part of Israel. International law and the United Nations still recognize the Golan Heights as part of Syria.


Description

Majdal Shams (in Arabic - Sun Tower), is a Druze village in the Golan Heights. Under Israeli Government since 1967. Local Council since 1982. Population: 8,400 (2003) all Druze. Majdal Shams is the highest community in Israel situated on the sloops of Mount Hermon. It was established in the 18th century and play a major role in the Druze revolt against the French in 1925, and subsequentially destroyed in 1926.
I saw no symbols when I visited it, and the only source to the emblem is the unclear one at <www.cityindex.co.il>.
