The municipality began using another decorative multi-purpose eruption flag. Namely, there is a volcano on the island that erupted in 1973, and on the 45th anniversary, this multi-purpose flag was made, designed by Kristinn Pálsson.

The flag consists of 4 eruptive colors: black, red, orange and yellow, and the flag can be rotated depending on the situation with the volcano. In case of the beginning of the eruption or during it, the black color should be in the upper part of the flag, while at the end of the eruption the flag should turn with the black color down.
