City Flag

The city flag was adopted on Feb 10th 1977 by the city Notice No 47. The vermilion flag is charged with green city emblem and its name in white hoist. The flag proportions are 2:3. The emblem represents a beautiful flower of double cherry blossoms in connection with Nara from the old days of Tenpyo and stylized kanji NA 奈 in the center of the flower. The kanji 示 of a part of 奈 and represents three lights of the sun, moon and star in connection with a legend that Nara people trained Japanese bush warbler to sing three light song beautifully in Mt. Mikasa in old days.

Tsuge Village / 都祁村

The flag of the former village of Tsuge was white with mark. The village is now, from 2005, part of the city of Nara.
