Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 6.177; area: 34,75 km². Settlements: Ell, Haler, Hunsel (seat), Ittervoort, Neeritter.
Hunsel is southeast of Weert in central Limburg near the Belgian border. It is a rural municipality, to which in 1942 Ittervoort and Neeritter were added.
The horn on the flag is derived from the Coat of Arms of the Van Horn family. The eagle is a reminder of historical relationships with the city of Thorn.
