Mercurius Scheepvaart

The versatile ‘Mercurius Scheepvaart Groep’ (i.e. Mercury Shipping Group) is a Dutch concern offering shipping (container or otherwise), crew management, specialized employment, brokerage, and vessel building projects. Website, English version: Situated at  Zwijndrecht, founded in 1983 by Robert Zimmerman, Mercurius started out in shipping brokerage developing into hire purchase and went on to provide administrative and related services for the shipping business.  Construction of vessels – inland tankers - started twenty years ago and has developed up to the point where innovating projects are realized (examples given are the flour barge and the pallet barge). Expansion led to the establishment of offices abroad e.g. Belgium and the Czech Republic; the current fleet comprises about a dozen small container ships.

With justified pride, special projects are highlighted such as the Smart Barge, the result of re-thinking container traffic on waterways, which will be launched in 2009.  Other examples are the crane-equipped container vessel and the revolutionary flour barge, designed to transport powdery loads in bulk.
The M-in-a-circle logo seen on the website appears on flags, the main variant apparently being blue with the logo in white (note the elegant “tail” suggesting a wave) accompanied by the company, or group, name.
Image found on the Dutch auction site ‘Marktplaats’ as no. 141004551 (accessed 13 Jan 2008) put up by “Skipvlag”.  Dimensions given as 0.92 m by 1.40 m; company name “MERCURIUS / SCHEEPVAART B.V.” placed inside the logo, the first line much bigger; letters white and italic.
Flag (with or without name?) flying on inland tanker ‘Youri’, see this ‘Vlootschouw’ page. Compare the much darker flag shown by ‘Binnenvaart’ illustrating the ‘Mercurius Amsterdam’ page (crane-equipped inland container vessel):
When saved, the drawing is much larger, but the ‘Binnenvaart’ house flag page leaves this one out.

Second image is a table flag in reversed colours (i.e. medium blue on white), logo mirrored, and without name. Source: German eBay offer no. 140069725117 (end 6 Jan 2007) put up – as an unknown item - by “olli11blau”. I have found no pictures of a similar life-size flag.
