Shield Argent, a castle Gules, masoned Azure with port and windows of the Same, charged with a sword cross Gules fimbriated Or and flanked by two embowed olive branches Proper, tied Gules in base, in chief five inescutcheons Azure set in cross, each one charged with 11 plates ordered 3:2:3:2:1, flanked by two crescents recumbent Gules. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "MESSEJANA".
Meaning:
The cross refers to the Order of Santiago, the inescutcheons are national symbols, probably symbolizing former importance.
