About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain red background (village rank).
António Martins-Tuválkin, 5 May 2009

Coat of arms

[Perais commune CoA] image by Sérgio Horta,

The arms are Argent a chevron wavy Azure charged with a chevron wavy Argent between a orbicular cross Gules (see: Portuguese Templar) on dexter chief and an olive bough Vert fruited Sable on sinister chief and a rowing boat Sable garnished Or on the base. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "PERAIS".
Meaning:
The arms are not canting, as "perais" (pl. of "peral") means pear groves (instead of the less picturesque "pereiral", "peartree grove"), and no pears are to be found thereon. (Unlike other mentioned cases the toponym does refer actual pears, but still no pears on the arms.)
António Martins-Tuválkin, 5 May 2009

Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário do Governo : III Série on 22 November 2002
