The name of Miklavž na Dravskem polju could be translated as "Nicolas on Drava field/valley", and the coat of arms reflects much of the name.

Municipal flag of Miklavž na Dravskem polju

The decision adopted in 2000, prescribing the flag and arms of Miklavž na Dravskem polju, was amended in 2001 as Odlok o spremembah in dopolnitvah Odloka o grbu in zastavi Občine Miklavž na Dravskem polju, adopted by the Municipal Council on 25 October 2001, and published in the regional official gazette Medobčinski uradni vestnik 27/2001.

Article 7a, added to the new decision, prescribes the layout of the flag for vertical and horizontal hoisting, while the previous decision prescribed only vertical hoistng, and determines exactly the size of the coat of arms in the flag as well as it border.
The width of the coat of arms is determined to be 40% of the flag width, while its height is determined to be 26% of the flag height for the vertical flag, where it should have a border of 1% of the flag height in width. For the horizontal flag the determinations are virtually the same - 20% of the flag length wide and 52% of the height high; however, here the border width is prescribed to be 1% of the flag height. This would mean that for a 100 x 200 cm flag, for vertical hositing, the border should be 2 cm, and for horizontal hoisting it should be 1 cm. This strikes me as wierd, and it is probably an oversight in "copy & paste" procedure by whoever was typing the text - however, this is how it is prescribed, so I draw it that way.

The colours are now given on both CMYK and Pantone systems, while the previous decision had only the CMYK specifications, and a more exact wording makes it clear that the flag field should be of the light green shade and not the "full" green as I have had it drawn before. The new colour specifications are:
- Clay yellow: CMYK 0-20-70-20 / Pantone 117c
- Greenish blue: CMYK 57-0-41-16 / Pantone 563c
- Waves and flag field: CMYK 57-0-41-16 50% raster / Pantone 565c

The coat of arms of Miklavž na Dravskem polju is a shield divided diagonally in white and greenish blue with waves, two fields symbolizing two elements, the land - Drava field, from the name of the community and the water - river Drava. In the shield there are symbols of the patron St. Nicolas, a crozier (symbolizing guidance), a book (wisdom) and three golden balls (care for those in need). The crozier and balls are coloured clay yellow. The four regions of the green field made by the waves symbolize the four local communities that make up the municipality.

The coat of arms and flag of Miklavž na Dravskem polju are prescribed by decision Odlok o grbu in zastavi Občine Miklavž na Dravskem polju, adopted on 1 June 2000 and published in the regional official gazette Medobčinski uradni vestnik, 12/2000.
The text and images are available online (page no longer available).

The flag is of the same greenish field as in the coat of arms with the arms set in the middle, always hoisted vertically, in proportions 1:2.
This flag is explicity allowed to be used by the citizens of the municipality, so making it both the civil and government flag. Most of other Slovene municipal flags are by default only to be used by the municipal authorities, that is they are government flags.
