The flag and arms of Cirkulane are prescribed, respectively, by Decision Odlok o grbu Občine Cirkulane and Decision Odlok o zastavi Občine Cirkulane, both adopted on 17 April 2008 and published on 30 April 2008 in the local official gazette Uradno glasilo slovenskih občin 11/2008.
The symbols were unveiled on 16 June 2008

The flag is in proportions 2:5, blue with two yellow transverse stripes and the inverted anchor from the coat of arms in the central field. The stripes have respective proportions 3:2:8:2:3. The central panel with the anchor is appropriately rotated for horizontal or vertical hoisting.

A public contest for municipal symbols was prescribed by Decision Javni anonimni natečaj za oblikovanje idejnih osnutkov za grb, zastavo in simbol Občine Cirkulane, adopted on 1 March 2007 and published on 19 March 2007 in the local official gazette Uradno glasilo slovenskih občin, 7/2007.
On 26 April 2007, the ad hoc Commission presented several selected proposals to the Municipal Council.
On 21 September 2007, the Mayor reported that the proposal sent to heraldists for opinions had received a negative assessment - it does not comply with heraldic rules and it would not be possible to register it in the Register of Public Symbols of the State Archives, so that a new contest should be launched to select a new design. This was confirmed by Decision, Javni anonimni natečaj za oblikovanje idejnih osnutkov za grb, zastavo in simbol Občine Cirkulane, adopted on 1 October 2007 and published on 4 October 2007 in Uradno glasilo slovenskih občin, 25/2007.
A second public contest was prescribed by Decision Javni anonimni natečaj za oblikovanje idejnih osnutkov za grb, zastavo in simbol Občine Cirkulane, adopted on 19 October 2007 and published on 30 October 2007 in Uradno glasilo slovenskih občin, 27/2007. Deadline for proposal submission was 20 November 2007.

The coat of arms of Cirkulane is "Azure an inverted anchor or".
As explained in the relevant Decision, the inverted anchor has been used since the 12th century in the coats of arms of the former town of Borl and the Dranežki nobility who owned it. The town, today part of the municipality of Cirkulane, was known as Ankerstein in German and Borlyn in Hungarian, the latter meaning "a ford", "a river crossing".

In June 2006, the Cirkulane branch of the SDS party published on its website proposals (never adopted) of a coat of arms for the municipality.
