Description of the flag

The town of Parrish, Alabama, got its first flag: www.mountaineagle.com/view/full_story/8742108/article-Guin-presents-Parrish-with-new-state-flag.

"PARRISH - Residents of Parrish are finding many new reasons to smile as of late. New business openings, the town's beautification plans, improvement to schools, and its future planning in projects connected to the opening of I-22, shows Parrish has its eyes on today and tomorrow.  Rep. Ken Guin (D-Carbon Hill), who was on hand Monday to present Parrish with a new state flag, said he was impressed with the city's recent work. "They're all doing a wonderful job here," Guin said. "There is a real renewed sense of pride in this community and a person can tell it. Everything down here looks so nice - there's a lot of good things going on." Along with the flag presentation, Guin awarded a $5,000 grant to the town.

The presentation of the new flag comes on the heels of a United States Flag that was presented to the town last week by U.S. Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville). Parrish's new national flag carries the distinction of having previously been flown over the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. The town also took the opportunity Monday to debut its new town flag, which displays Parrish's new crest. The Parrish flag has been designed by Parrish town clerk Marcy Brown. "It's been a great day for us," Parrish Mayor Wayne Gross said. "We've never had a town flag before in our entire history and now we have one to show that we are proud of Parrish. We have flags flying with pride, for the entire city, not just the people working in City Hall, but for every resident in this city. It's reflective on how our people feel now. You can see it in our citizens. They feel good about themselves and Parrish. They are re-energized by the changes that are going on around them."

Gross acknowledges the work of many of the town's officials in helping Parrish's progression that led to being honored. "It's not just just the mayor - it's the clerks, the magistrate, the dispatchers and so many of the people who work for our city," Gross said. "Much of the credit goes to them. For people in Montgomery to think of us enough to give us a state flag, as well as someone who represents us in Washington to give us a flag that once flew over our nation's capital, is due to much of their work. It's much of their tireless effort that has led us to be recognized."
