Vir is located on an island of the same name in the north-west end of the County, connected with the mainland with a bridge. It has less than 1,000 inhabitants, but in summer this number rises drastically when tourists overwhelm the coast.

The symbols of Vir are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Vir, adopted on 4 February 2006 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 7 April 2006 in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Zadarske županije, No. 6.
The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, dark blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

Coat of arms of Vir - Image by Željko Heimer, 23 October 2007
The coat of arms is "Azure a head of St. John the Baptist argent on a plate or".
The Statutes claims that this is the historical coat of arms of Vir (which I seriously doubt). The saint, locally known as Sveti Ivan Glavosjek, is the patron saint of Vir. The arms of Tounj uses the same charge.
