Jaegers Combitank

The Jaegers homepage is still off the air, however I had already checked out Jaegers Combitank BV, the Rotterdam subsidiary (formerly Dordrecht I believe). The local website is unavailable too, or it may have been suspended - Fortunately the Vlootschouw pages show the local Jaeger variant, for instance here: on the page dedicated to tanker vessel ‘Almeria’. This time, the differentiating elements are ‘JC’ (blue initials) and the Dutch national colours (lines around the lozenge).

In my original message I only had to offer a drawing, now there is a photo (still modest – table flag only) confirming this local variant of the Jaegers archivexillum!
See image, original picture found – where else – on German eBay: no.290193777621 (end 2 Jan 2008) put up by “shipflag”, dimensions given as approx. 16 cm x 24 cm.
Not shown on the drawing is the white fimbriation surrounding the lozenge rim in the (Dutch) national colours, so we gain a little extra information.

Joon Shipping

[Joon Shipping houseflag] image by Eugene Ipavec, 6 May 2009

This Joon family page briefly mentions Joon Shipping, see third before last picture (flag drawing) just above J. Depp, (where “joon” - pronounce “yohn”, rhymes with bone - means a small signal flag which used to be attached to a fishing net via a dan or marker buoy– but that is another matter).
Caption (translated from original Dutch): “Peter Nicolaas Joon, container shipping operator, gave his companies the names ‘Joon Shipping’, ‘Joon Ship Services’, ‘Joon Chartering’ and ‘Joon Liner Services’.  The companies flew the well-known “joon” logo.”

Clicking on the image leads to a larger house flag drawing: Dark blue bearing a white rectangle (shifted towards the hoist), in its centre a blue disk bearing several design elements, all in white: two stylized waves, above these a stylized buoy with a staff from which a small flag or pennant is fluttering, buoy and staff (but not the flaglet) inscribed within two circles (the outer one somewhat thicker) rising from the waves.

Image after a photo of a real flag (giving better detail, for instance, of the waves; and a short vertical line extends below the waves, as well). This concerned
Marktplaats (Dutch auction site) offer no. 9464277013 accessed 22 May 2007 and put up by “neptunusboek”.  Dimensions given as 110 cm x 170 cm.
The flag also appears on a book cover, lower right (where the rectangle appears to be neatly centred).
Short company history in Dutch: Founded 1981 by Peter Joon, takes over German Koala Line (1988) and Holland Canada Line (1989); adopts flag of Netherlands Antilles (1989); cooperates with Contship; transforms ‘Rederij de Nieuwe Waterweg’ at Rotterdam into Joon Shipping (1990); bankruptcy of Joon companies, June and July 1991 (outstanding debts to Nigoco, also high oil prices plus low traffic rates).

JR Shipping

[JR Shipping houseflag] image by Eugene Ipavec, 18 Apr 2009

Dutch shipping company JR Shipping, established at Harlingen (Friesland), uses a flag drawing to great effect in advertising and on its website, although the implied staff or pole seems to be on the right, suggesting we see the reverse of the flag.
Here is the real item however (on land): white field, red italic initial ‘J’ and blue italic initial ‘R’ separated by the voided form of a bird, probably a seagull, flying from ‘J’ to ‘R’.
Speaking for themselves, “JR Shipping is an experienced and renowned ship owning company, leading in the market of container feeder vessels. The shipping group owns and operates a fast growing fleet of modern container feeder vessels sailing under the Dutch quality flag. The fleet is continuously expanded with newbuilding vessels and competitive existing tonnage. The vessels are all financed through limited partnerships…”
Founded in 1993 by Jan Reier Arends (hence the initials) and now employing about 250 people, JR Shipping heads a group also consisting of JR Ship Management, JR Ship Crew, Confeeder Shipping & Chartering, and JR Ship Cruise (by container ship!) whose names are self-evident.
The ‘Fleet’ section (upper menu) offers details on JR’s ships (capacity between 350 / 1050 TEU) two dozen ships – all names starting with ‘E’-  many of which are in the hightest ice class.  Charters are assured by Confeeder.
Various kinds of ships are dealt with by JR’ brokers and consultants; since 2008 the Chowgule shipyard at Goa, India is associated and in the process of building multipurpose ships for the European market.
